DESCRIPTION
Salvia discolour is from Peru the foliage is grey but the flowers are the darkest blue/purple looking black. The flower stems are sticky and really unusual, it is best cut to the ground in late winter/early spring to keep them happy and healthy, and the size to about 1m high and wide. Once established discolour is moderately frost tolerant, but is very drought hardy.

I have included some comments from Robyns Salvias from the UK
A most unusual species from Peru, this is a lax plant ideally suited to hanging baskets, as it is best seen from below to appreciate its beauty. (Although the famous botanist Christopher Lloyd refers to this salvia as 'A flopping oddity'!) The foliage is silvery-green, and smells distinctly of blackcurrant. The stems are very sticky, and the flowers are deep violet...almost black, with a light green calyx. A rather brittle salvia, it is best sheltered from high winds.
