DESCRIPTION
Impressive, dusky-coral–red, slim pokers on a compact foliage clump, make Kniphofia ‘Nancy’s Red’ one of the best.
Poor old “Red Hot Pokers” got a bad reputation, because the foliage clumps became too rampantly untidy, coarse and messy. They were far too much for all but the largest gardens
But the neat, compact foliage on Nancy’s has put this old complaint to bed. Nancy’s red has a foliage clump just 30-40cm tall and wide approx, and of fine, grassy leaves.
Exceptionally long flowering
Nancy’s flower pokers are 70cm. tall, slender and elegant, and the most luscious rich colour terracotta-red. There is not even a hint of brash orange.
Plus she blooms for a remarkably long season, with a succession of pokers from early summer constantly right through autumn. They are very long lasting in both the garden and a vase.
Nancy is the most perfectly behaved poker, suitable for even the smallest gardens.
As tough as old boots – almost anywhere
As with many of the Poker family, ‘Nancy’s Red’ is almost indestructible and very drought tolerant once established. A very water-wise choice.
She thrives in Full Sun to 1/2 Shade.
As well she is hardy in frost, heat, dry, poor soil, and just about anything. Plus she is very suitable for seaside gardens.
‘Nancy’s Red’ grows well in sandy, rocky and gravel soils, and loves sharp drainage. Either acid or alkaline lime soils are tolerated well. However she will sulk and leave you rapidly in wet, heavy soils.
